WordPress Blog Training Tip – How To Maximise Your SEO Ranking

February 17th, 2010 David Anttony No comments

WordPress is one of the world’s major and most widely used blogging software package. When it comes to SEO it is one of the best programs that you can use.

This is part of a series of tip articles just about using WordPress for maximizing on Search Engine Optimization.

Tip: Make sure the blog is on YOUR site

So often we are asked about adding a blog on another website such as Blogger or Wordpress.com which provides free blog hosting and has a high PR rank.

If you are doing blogging for SEO reasons compared to gaining traffic purposes, then you can ONLY locate your blog in one place and one place only – On your site!

Do not even think about using a sub-web such as http://www.blog.myhappysite.com. Why would you use a sub web anyhow unless if you want a cool blog URL.

Sub webs are part of your internet site but they are confusing from an SEO position. If you want to have the blog content 100% associated with your website then make sure it is off a sub folder and NOT a sub web for example : http://www.myhappysite.com/blog.

Placing your blog on a sub web will not give you the same SEO advantage as having them as a sub-folder on your website. Sub webs may be treated different by different search engines – the result outcome will be unclear.

If your blog is presently hosted on blogger.com or wordpress.com then you should think about to move it as soon as manageable if you want to enhance your SEO position.

One fundamental thing to watch out for if you move a large blog to your site (with lots of content), that if you are currently ranking for a number of keywords, then your ranking can be seriously affected after you have added your blog content.

We have experienced client ranking drop after adding a lot of new content in the form of a blog to a clients sites. Adding a hit of new content ‘dilutes’ your current site content if the new content is NOT SEO optimized for the keywords that you want to rank for. Search Engine Optimize the content before making it live to avoid this dilution effect. Taking the time to do this BEFORE you add it to your site will make a big difference to your existing ranking position.

Rank No1 – Three Tips To Help You

February 17th, 2010 David Anttony No comments

Sometimes it’s just the smallest of things that can make a HUGE difference with SEO ranking results.

Here are three little things that will make a Bigger difference if you utilize them all the time.

1. If you are going fishing make sure there are fish and not too many fishing people.

2. Title is everything.

3. Being bold makes you stand out.

If you are going fishing make sure there are fish and not too many fishing people.

If you were going fishing as a fishing pro, you would do 1 thing first before throwing your nets into the water, you would KNOW that there were fish there to be caught! A pro fisher ‘man’ doesn’t throw their nets into the water before scanning the water with radar to check to see if there are fish there. If you are smart at SEO you will do the same! You will also not go fishing where everyone else is ‘fishing’, this is common sense.

When it comes to a more abstract world like SEO sometimes we forget every-day sense. So let’s remember!

In the SEO world making sure there are fish is making sure that there is traffic for a word we are preferring to rank for. Use tools like Google Traffic Estimator (just Google it) if you are short on funds, and if you have a little bit of money, go get yourself a WordTracker subscription (they also have a free tool as well which is good). These (and many other traffic tools) will tell you that there are ‘fish’ for the keywords that you want to rank for.

The next part of the tip is not to fish were everyone else is fishing! This makes logical sense but often forget that it’s best to fish were there is little or no competition! So look for keywords that not may people have content written for but a lot of people are looking for.

Title is everything.

In the SEO world the page title is the ’secret weapon’ of the top ranker! Here is one thing to remember, make sure that the page title is as close as possible to being 100% the keyword you want to rank for as possible. The page title is like the title of a book. If you wanted to learn about the sex life of a worm then a book title of ‘Sex life of a worm’ will grab your attention and you will know you have the book you want. On the other hand a title of ‘Worms and interesting facts’ will not grab you in the same way. Make your title tags (where ever you can) 100% the keyword/key phrase you want to rank for.

Being bold makes you stand out.

This is a very good onsite optimisation tip if you want to optimize a page/blog entry for a specific keyword, make sure you embolden the keyword in the text 2 or 3 times. Do not overdo it of course!

How To Pick A Good SEO Company To Achieve Success On The Internet

February 17th, 2010 William Lee No comments

The new age marketing strategies use the technique of Search Engine Optimization or SEO to take advantage of the spurt in the number of internet users. The trend has triggered the growth of many companies that offer SEO services at inexpensive rates. While these companies offer several advantages, it is critical to know about the essential qualities that you must look for in an SEO company before hiring it.

The most basic thing to look for is whether the SEO company follows ethical practices or not in its business. Although an unethical technique might be able to give you results quickly, it can easily lead to search engine fines, and might even create a bad image to prospective customers. The only way to have consistent web traffic to your site is to use time-honoured strategies and offer the visitors a good experience. The legitimate techniques are those that make use of good content targeted at certain keywords, the proper utilisation of Meta tags, and creating inbound links.

The content of the website must be unique with proper keywords density and any good SEO service provider will give due importance to that. Both these factors go a long way in increasing the positioning of your website with major search engines. Besides, content sharing has become an essential SEO strategy, and thus the firm must develop materials like videos and articles to be circulated free of cost.

The SEO company has to be updated with the latest technological changes and be able to offer end-to-end SEO services to you. Understanding your business, doing research work for discovering keywords that are frequently used by customers, and then specifying plans for bringing in more people to the site are all a part of that.

Creating an effective campaign requires an understanding of all the SEO techniques and a capability to apply them to good effect. Having an excellent team with experience and expertise to make the correct choices of SEO practices in different scenarios is the trademark of an excellent SEO company.

Last but not the least, it is important to note that SEO is not a one time activity, and lasting success can only be achieved by using SEO services regularly. It is rather difficult to keep track of the constant changes in the search engine policies, and to keep your site aligned to these changes, you will need a good SEO company by your side to guide you.

What Is Meant By A Meta Tag

February 17th, 2010 Justin Harrison No comments

A Meta Tag is a line of HTML coding containing metadata about the webpage it is sited on. The Meta tag information does not change the appearance of the page and will never be seen by the people visiting the webpage. The only way your Meta tags will be seen is if the audience wish to notice your find language.

The two types of tags available are Meta description tags and the Meta keywords tags. The Meta description tag is used to describe the nature and purpose of the webpage that is created. For instance, if the webpage is about drug rehab then the meta description would be similar to “Information on drug rehab”. The Meta keywords tags are words that help the search engine to find the webpage during search. For example the Meta keywords for the above mentioned example would be drug rehad, alcohol rehab, drug abuse, drug prevention, help with drugs rehabilitation, etc. These words are visible to the search engine when a user places the keyword in search.

When writing HTML code, you will place all Meta Tags in the heading, or HEAD section of the HTML document. For example, you might have:

The main purpose of the Meta tags are to proved a way for search engines and web crawlers to easily gain information about your website. The more details you provide about your website, the greater the chances that search engines will identify your site in a list of search results for a user looking for related information.

To prevent the misuse of Meta Tags to drive traffic to a site that really has nothing to do with the page’s keywords, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) also looks at the actual content of a webpage to make sure that the keywords are also found in the body of page. For example, if you include keywords such as “gardening” and “pet toys” in your Meta Tags, you need to also include those terms in the body of your web page (the text that users can see when they visit your page), otherwise search engines will simply not consider your site worthy to display in their search results.

Some web crawlers ignore meta keywords tags and meta description tags such as larger search engines like Google and Yahoo. These web crawlers will search the content of your site instead of meta keywords.

This is because of the reason that some people use the most searched keywords in their meta tag descriptions and meta tag keywords that had nothing to do with their site. For this reason it is important to have the keywords that you are trying to promote from your site on the webpage many times. For you webpage to hit to top results in search you have to have human written content that is informative, readable and related to your page.

How To Super-Power WordPress Search Engine Optimization

February 17th, 2010 David Anttony No comments

Wordpress out of the box provides fundamental management of the primary SEO meta data. To expand the functionality we add our own super-charged version of the All-In-One-SEO Pack. The SEO pack makes it simple to change the page title and page meta description.

The All-In-One-SEO Pack is a great WordPress plugin that completes the SEO aspects for WordPress. For some unknown reason WordPress still has not got the SEO fixed out of the box.

The All-In-One-SEO Pack provides for you to change the most important page elements – page title and page description. It also allows you to modify the page keywords, but as we all know, search engines no longer take note of these because they have been spammed too much in the past. Google stopped using the keywords for page ranking in the early 2000’s.

Page Title HTML tags

This is the No1 SEO component to control. Constantly make sure that you manipulate the page title. The page title appears in the browser window at the very top of the screen. Search engines use this in the listings and show it in their search results.

Ideally the page title consists only of appropriate keywords and nothing else. To make the text more human readable then we often add a pipe character (

Just like with a book the page title of an HTML page is the most significant element. Never leave this element to chance. Make sure you use keywords in the title.

If your page needs to stretch to cover two or 3 keywords we have learned that you can still get great rankings from adding multiple keywords to the title. But do remember that the closer the page title is to the keyword you want to rank for the better.

Even though it’s best to keep the page title just to the keywords you want to rank for, if you are a branded company you will also most likely want to add in your company name so that it is displayed on Google in your listing.

Page Description Meta Tags

This element is NOT used by search engines for ranking purposes. All The Same, virtually all search engines will use this in their search results so it is important. We have discovered that Google will use the description most of the time. We have not yet discovered how it determines if to use it or not. The rest of the time it will pick up the first piece of text on the page.

By having a good description it will increase your click through rates because the text will be more appealing to people. Ensure that you use a maximum of 156 characters. If you use any more characters Google will cut short the rest. If you can keep your descriptions to–0 characters or less this is even better seeing Google sometimes adds a date to the opening of the description which is part of the 156 characters it displays.

SEO Meta data shown on Google listing

Changing the meta data and page title

At the bottom of every page and post you will find the meta tags plugin details. Update the details appropriately. Note: If you can only use see the title for the plugin and no details, just click the title and the section will expand.

When you have determined what the best possible keywords are for your website, you should continue to make sure that your website is optimized for the best search engine ranking possible. The first thing you need to do is to add as much content as possible to your web site, that is related to your keywords, which should be the products or services you provide. Links are just as important. These include not only incoming links, but outgoing ones as well. Linking to good quality sites that provide further information regarding the topics discussed on your site and vise versa can allow you to support your website in a way that will attract search attention. You can gain links by business networking sites as well as through vendors and others that deal in the same business realm.

After you make these improvements to your website, you should see immediate results in how high your website is ranked by the major search engines, which will translate into a higher place in the results list. Major Changes At Yahoo

February 17th, 2010 Julie Johnson No comments

Recently Yahoo has struggled to remain one of the top competitors when it comes to providing tools and software for the internet. Part of Yahoo’s problems is that the company has flip-flopped in recent years between focusing their efforts on technical components, or media components. This back and forth has finally come to an end though, as Microsoft has sold most of their media related products to Microsoft, and have re-dedicated themselves to focusing on the technical side of their business.

And while it seems that they are being taken over by Microsoft, executives at Yahoo have stated that they still tend to maintain their foothold in the search engine market. But is the best truly yet to come for Yahoo?

Yahoo is now competing with the Google search engine, and Microsoft’s Bing search engine to be the most popular search engine. To do this Yahoo is going to completely change the way their search engine works, which they hope will allow them to provide the most relevant results of all of the search engines. In addition to these major changes to their search engine, Yahoo is also working on developing new and innovative tools that will provide functionality for users that they have never seen before.

Their strategy is to offer a long tail of relevant content for each search using classifications of places, people, and products to help draw in only relevant search results, something that Bing has become more successful at than even super giant Google. Yahoo feels that they can corner the market if they can further narrow down search results to relevant content.

Can they bring about these innovations quickly enough to put them back on the map? Well, this remains to be seen. Yahoo wants to make sure that internet users know that it is too soon to count them out of the game just yet, and that they do have plans in the works for a comeback.

The Definitive Link Building Strategy

February 16th, 2010 Kimberly Thomas No comments

Link Building is the most important factor for getting higher rankings on search engines and gaining adequate website popularity. A variety of methods and sources are used for building links for website. Every website owner wishes to have high rankings on search engines and exceeding traffic on the website pages.

Link Building is the backbone of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and the qualitative links give many positive impacts on the website, including the increase in Page Rank (PR), long term high Search Engine Rankings, increased web popularity, web traffic and much more. Link Building is the most important factor for getting high ranks on search engines and gaining adequate website popularity. It is the process of getting top positions on search engines by searching for theme based and relevant websites and getting your website link placed on those websites.

Persuading other web sites to link to your own could be one of the cleverest pieces of marketing you do – it’s low cost, highly effective at driving traffic and it can have a dramatic effect on your search engine ranking. Links are one of the most popular ways for people to find new sites and so the more quality sites that link to you the better.

There are lots of little ways you can check to see if your keyword optimization efforts are paying off for your Web site. You’ll know you’re achieving search engine optimization when your traffic increases, when you enter the keywords you’re using into a search engine and actually find your own site. There are plenty of tools that will help you check this or that, so you can fine-tune your site’s SEO.

Google search engine ranking factors are among the most important items to check in any SEO work. This will ensure that the strategies formulated are effective, current and optimal for the best search engine ranking results. Every search engine optimization analysis examines the website’s performance against these important ranking factors.

The conversion rate is the most important web metric in a commercial website. Conversions lead to sales, and sales leads to profits; this is why a good conversion rate is essential for long term business success. Yet this important web metric is often the hardest to figure out. SEO companies often ignore it, and leave it to the website owner to determine. This is not good, because SEO should not only be about increasing traffic from rankings; instead, a good SEO should also pay attention to the conversion rate.

A third method for link building is to expand the leverage of putting your articles in the top directories. The goal is to get your articles placed on relevant sites that are trusted by Google. By finding sites that have republished your articles from the directory you can contact those websites and offer them more original articles.

Many websites are in constant need of new original content. The operative word is original.

The best way to quickly boost your Search Engine Rankings is to get backlinks from other websites. P2W2 can help your website improve search engine ranking by page optimisation and boost incoming links.

Tips On choosing A Good SEO Trainer

February 16th, 2010 David Anttony No comments

SEO is a very differentiated sphere of net marketing. It is a combination of so many skill areas. A good SEO business will have a extended range of SEO skills within its team so that it can tackle the numerous issues that they will face in ranking a site on Google and other search engines.

However, training is very distinct. Someone that is good at creating results may not be good at communicating to others how they can get results.

Many SEO trainers are hands on SEO optimizers and they do not have a professional IT training background.

Here are 5 tips to take note of when engaging a great SEO training company.

ONE:

Ask the SEO company if their trainers are SEO professional people as well as fully fledged IT trainers. Do they have the slkill, experience and skill to deal with people in a classroom situation so that the trainees can fully gain from their SEO skills?

TWO:

Does the SEO trainer have working hands-on experience of ranking numerous unique types of websites on Google, Yahoo and MSN – can they show you the results! Or is the trainer a book instructor – they learnt from a book all the hypotheses but have not learnt the hard cold facts about SEO in the SEO ‘jungle’. Will they be able to fetch to the table the help skills to solve YOUR problems on YOUR website? It’s a simple issue of asking.

THREE:

What technical background does your SEO trainer have? Have they an extensive web development background so that they can cover all the core areas that they need to help you rank and learn about ranking your website. A top flight SEO expert teacher should have 2+ years’ web development skills in both HTML and programming languages combines as a minimum.

FOUR:

Does the training come with any follow-up support? Like all training – on the day everything is easy – after the course when you get back the story is different! What after training support is offered by the SEO training company in writing so that you know you will be able to integrate your training effectively.

FIVE:

What is the company’s current ranking on Google? Have you checked what their current ranking is for keywords like SEO, SEO training, SEO services etc? If they are not on the first page or the top of the second page in the local Google site then maybe they are doing training too early before they have established themselves properly. So go check their rankings right away or just ask them!
