Taking A Romantic Cruise In Paris

February 13th, 2010 Owen Jones No comments

If you are feeling romantic and you want to be alone with your loved one in a romantic place far from humdrum distractions, why not go to Paris and take a cruise? The cruise ships are gorgeous and offer haute cuisine with fine wines and a wide range of dishes. Service on board is superb and if they know that it is a special trip for you, they will go out of their way to make it even more special.

Just by selecting the city of Paris as your venue, you will be conveying the impression of romance, because as everybody knows, Paris has the reputation of being the capital of the world of romance.

So, how do you go about booking one of these cruises? Well, clearly, first of all, you have to be in Paris. This is not a problem, if you live in Europe as there are flights and sleeper trains. If you are American, you will have to take the longer-term view and start saving for next year.

Once in your hotel in Paris, you can either ask reception for details or go to one of the many Tourist Information Centres, where everyone speaks English. The cruise line staff will pick you up from your hotel on the chosen day, so that you will not have the aggravation of having to find your way through a strange, busy city on your own.

Once on board, the pampering begins with your welcoming on board and a free drink to light the fires of romance. You will enjoy four or more hours of this, depending on which cruise you decide on, but they are all wonderfully romantic voyages aboard beautiful cruise liners.

Generally speaking, the cruise will start on the left bank of the river Seine, usually in the vicinity of the Eiffel Tower. Some of these boats are made of a type of perspex, so that your view of the streets and monuments is unimpeded. And of course, all the sights are lit up at night and in quite a stunning fashion too. You will also be able to gaze downwards into the water itself.

As you cruise on this glass boat you will be entertained by some of the finest musicians that Paris can offer you. Solo instrumentalists; quartets; classical music; solo artiste singers or a duet. There are also cruises with more modern music as well, but I don’t find them as romantic as the more traditional stuff. However, you can take all these particulars into account when you book your romantic cruise in Paris.

You will not only pass by celebrated landmarks, you will also pass very close by them and even underneath them. Famous bridges; Notre Dame; the Louvre, and many more. Not only that, but you will see all these incredible historical monuments while being pampered by the best hosts that Paris has to offer and drinking fine wines and champagne, seated at the bow of the cruiser in luxury.

Once your romantic cruise and your meal are over, you will be taken to a lavish show on the Champs Elysees, where you will be provided with a half bottle of champagne on entry. There is no need to worry about driving, so let your hair down and enjoy yourselves.

When you have had enough of the high life, you will be transported back to your hotel, in the same manner that you were picked up. However, there are other options too. You may want to go back to the hotel on a romantic horse and carriage, it will sustain that romantic mood.

Once you get back to your hotel, why not both get in the bath together? Light a few fragrant candles, open another bottle of wine and play some soft music. It will be an evening you will both remember for the rest of your lives, I promise you.

St Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

February 7th, 2010 Owen Jones No comments

Without any shadow of a doubt at all, St Valentine’s Day is the most important day of the year for couples. Although many people argue that St Valentine’s Day is only a commercialized festival created for the reason of encouraging people to buy cards, flowers and presents. However, there are others who do not care how St Valentine’s Day started and are just pleased to have a day when they can plan a romantic day with the one they love.

For many people, this day involves giving a gift of some sort, whether this is a token present or an expensive gift, working out what to give your loved one for St Valentine’s Day can be a difficult decision. This piece will offer a few suggestions for presents on St Valentine’s Day.

1] One of the simplest, and most popular St Valentine’s Day presents is a card. It may not seem like a lot, but many people, women in particular, say that a card is one of the best presents they can receive on St Valentine’s Day. However, you cannot give just any old card, the best cards express your sentiments about your loved one and your liaison.

You can find cards with a pre-printed rhyme, but can also get cards which are blank inside, so that you can write your own sentiments and if you cannot find a card that looks like you want it to, you can even try creating your own card.

2] Jewelry is another great gift for St Valentine’s Day. Simple earrings might be suitable for a new relationship, whereas a more expensive gift would be fitting for a relationship, which is more deeply rooted. Despite the price of the present, the jewelry you give to your companion on St Valentine’s Day will be something she will really appreciate.

3] A weekend away is another great gift for St Valentine’s Day. This type of gift is more fitting for couples who have been together for a while or who are married. If you and your partner have never traveled together before, you might want to discuss the gift with your companion beforehand instead of surprising him or her with the gift.

4] What would St Valentine’s Day be without candy? The most traditional gifts on St Valentine’s Day are flowers and candy. While these gifts are very much appreciated, most women would agree that candy is their favourite part of the duo. Flowers are beautiful and are always treasured, but chocolates, and especially gourmet chocolates are the number one.

5] Finally, there is no reason why Valentine’s Day presents have to be any different than presents you would give for other occasions such as a birthday or Christmas. You can give things such as clothing, DVDs, CDs, electronic gadgets or anything else that you know your partner will appreciate. As long as you are giving your companion a present you know he or she will like, it will make a good present for St Valentine’s Day.

Gourmet Chocolates For Romance

February 1st, 2010 Owen Jones No comments

Almost everyone has a fondness for chocolate, even if they would rather rebuff it. But some of us have a passion for it and if you tried gourmet chocolate, this would turn into a devotion. The sensation of its texture in your mouth as it melts is very pleasing and its richness takes this enjoyment to a whole new level. Some people even say that they prefer chocolate over everything else.

Although chocolate is delicious, some chocolates are more enjoyable than others. A Snickers bar is full of chocolate but it is also stuffed with peanuts and caramel and the chocolate is not so great anyway. Thankfully, there are gourmet chocolates to be had to satisfy any chocolate lover’s chocolate desire.

There are enough different cacao inspired delectable treats out there to please almost everyone. There are kinds of chocolate that some people almost certainly never have thought possible. Chocolates now even come in a chocolate-wine mixture to act as a decadent topping to a sweet.

Examples of the flavours you can get are: chocolate espresso merlot and chocolate raspberry cabernet. Many pure chocolate and wine lovers knew that wine and chocolate went well together, but would not have thought of mixing them in a sauce. However, when they are poured over ice-cream, they are a pure delight to the taste buds.

Chocolates called truffles of all kinds are also available for those with an extra sweet tooth, whether you love dark, milk or white chocolate. There are also boxes of chocolate to suit anyone’s needs. They contain a wide variety of different gourmet chocolates. Some people really like coffee filled chocolates or cherry filled chocolates.

There are selection boxes of chocolates too which offer one or two of all the kinds of gourmet chocolates that that firm has to offer. Some of the combinations you will have heard of, others you will not. A selection box like this is a somewhat less expensive way of getting to know a manufacturer’s products.

If you just want an ordinary bar of gourmet chocolate, then those are available too from select suppliers. It is best to look online or in Yellow Pages. I have seen dark, milk and white chocolate bars available, but I prefer the individual bonbons, although a bar is simpler to carry in your bag and it is the same high-quality chocolate, but without a filling..

These small, but delectable gourmet chocolates make perfect, romantic gifts for your paramour too. Also, if you know a chocolate lover, then they will seriously be grateful for the complex taste of these gourmet delights. They will know that you have spent your time and money getting them the only gift they really wanted.

Online shops that sell these luscious chocolates frequently also have gift certificates available, so if you cannot choose the best gourmet chocolates you can certainly let them do it for themselves with your voucher.

What Are Those Roses Trying To Tell You?

January 27th, 2010 Owen Jones No comments

More roses are sold in the few days before St. Valentine’s Day than in any other similar timespan in the year. Until not so long ago, people were mindful of the significance of the colours of roses (I am pretty sure that it did not concern other flowers too).

For instance, it would have been a serious faux pas to give a young teenage girl a red rose, but not a pink or a yellow one. All the colours had a significance. However, it is a bit like reading Tarot cards, not everyone agrees on those significances.

Anyway, out of interest and to keep the tradition going, I will give you the commonly accepted meanings of the colours of roses hereunder.

‘My love is like a red, red rose’, so goes the poem and when most people think of a rose, the first colour that probably comes to mind is red and, in fact, the word ?rose? comes from the Latin word ?rosa?, which means red.

It is also true that red roses are the most common and the most bought colour, but there are so many other colours that there is an entire lexicon of significance that can be said with them.

Here are some colours and their meaning:

Red – Love, romance, beauty, obsession, yearning and respect

Burgundy – Unconscious beauty

Red but withered – Our love is over

White – Wholesomeness, youth, pure love and virginal innocence

Pink – Happiness, admiration, gratitude and grace

Dark Pink – Thankfulness or thank you

Yellow – Joy, gladness, companionship, delight or platonic love

Yellow with Red Tip – Falling in Love

Orange – Fascination, desire, or enthusiasm

Red and White – (a bouquet of roses of two colours) – Ardent purity or unity

Peach – Sincerity, gratitude, indebtedness, modesty, admiration, or sympathy

Lavender – Love at first sight or enchantment

Black – Death or our love is over

Blue – Unfeasible, unachievable or secrecy

Red Rosebud – Sign of purity and beauty

White Rosebud – Girlhood or youth

Thornless Rose – “Love at First Sight”

Single Rose – Straightforwardness

Two Roses – An engagement or impending marriage

Rose Leaves – Symbol of hope

Roses – Sent every month – loveliness ever renewed

Regrettably, there no true black or blue roses in nature, as the pigment structures in the rose do not permit these colours to be developed, although it has not prevented gardeners trying for hundreds of years. However, there are some very dark purple roses, which are used in place of black roses. There are also some very pale lavender roses that seem to be blue, but have a shade of pink in them. Traditionally, blue roses are usually white roses dyed.

No matter what you want to express with your flowers, a bouquet of roses can articulate your emotions. So next time you give a bouquet of roses, why not try to express what you want to say by selecting the colours with care. The recipient probably will not understand these day, but you could send them a copy of this article or have fun explaining the meaning to them over a bottle of wine.

Chocolate Candy For The Connoisseur

January 26th, 2010 Owen Jones No comments

Chocolate candy must be the most popular sort of candy in the world. It certainly is in Europe and America. We eat tons and tons of Mars, Cadburys, Lindt and Nestle chocolate candy every year. The depressing thing is that most of the people who admit to liking chocolate have never tasted a decent bar of chocolate in their lives.

To a connoisseur, chocolate candy can come from anywhere in the world although Belgium, Switzerland and France are the countries, whose names come to mind first. Regardless of that, good chocolate candy is also made in Great Britain, Spain, the USA and some parts of Latin America.

This is not surprising as chocolate first made its debut among the Mayans of Central America in at least 300 BC and possibly even as far back as 3000 BC. In 300 AD it was a special drink reserved for royalty and was very bitter. It was so special that it had to be drunk from a golden chalice and that chalice could be used for that intention only one time.

In those days, many more herbs and spices were added to the royal drink called xocoatl. It was also a lot purer in terms of cacao content than practically anything you can buy on the shelves in the supermarket today as well. The nearest we have to that purity is gourmet chocolate.

Gourmet chocolate will normally have been manufactured by a chocolatier, which is similar to what a chef is to cuisine. These manufacturers of chocolate candy are the best in the world, highly trained and head-hunted by the best chocolate makers. They can command large salaries and become world famous among the aficionados of fine chocolate candy.

Fine chocolate candy must have a high chocolate content. That sounds as if it should go without saying, doesn’t it? However, to be called chocolate in the US, candy only has to contain 15% actual chocolate and ‘bakers’ chocolate’ frequently does not contain any at all. In Europe that figure is 35%, which is why most Americans think that European chocolate candy is sumptuous.

Good chocolate candy is supposed to break cleanly with an audible ’snap’ and ought to have a glossy surface. The chocolate candy most liable to have a high cacao content is dark chocolate, which is also often somewhat bitter, reminiscent of the actual taste of cacao before most manufacturers put sugar into the mix. Purer chocolate candy also melts on the tongue and produces a mild feeling of well-being.

Purer forms of chocolate candy have had a variety of reputations over the centuries. It has the reputation of being a stimulant and had the reputation of being an aphrodisiac, probably for the same reason. This is due to a chemical naturally present in the bean called Theobromine. Theobromine has effects on other animals too. For instance, it is a banned substance for racing horse because it has an exaggerated effect on horses and chocolate should never be given to cats or dogs because it is toxic to them.

Theobromine and another chemical present, phenethylamine, have been linked with the production of seratonin, which is stimulated by prescribed drugs to ward off depression.

Valentine’s Day for Single Girls

January 25th, 2010 Owen Jones No comments

Some people do not like being on their own on St. Valentine’s Day. Younger women in particular feel that being alone on St. Valentine’s Day bears a stigma, which makes them feel dejected and lonely. But just because someone is not in a relationship, it does not mean they cannot have a good time. I will give a couple of tips below to help you have a time to remember.

1] Call up all your single girlfriends and go clubbing. Many young men like to dance every now and again or to their favourite songs, but they do not want to dance non-stop. On the other hand, young women often do like to dance non-stop, so you may have a better time without a boyfriend in a club.

2] Another good idea for single girls on Valentine’s Day is to give a movie night at your home. You can invite over all of your single friends and hire a few comedies. Instead of being sad and miserable, you and your friends could watch the movies and take the rise out of the characters in the movie.

Hire a few horror films too for an extra special night. Lots of young people like horror films. They like to have a scream and hide their faces behind their friends’ backs. Treat the evening like a proper night at the movies and get popcorn, snacks, ice cream and cola, etc in.

3] You could hold a singles party. Invite all of your single friends and tell them they have to bring a friend of the opposite sex. Buy or borrow some of those games that make you answer personal questions like ‘Forfeits’ and ‘Twister’, where you have to put your hands and feet on numerous coloured spots on a plastic mat.

‘Mr and Mrs’ is another game where you ask one half of a ‘couple’ questions about the other in his absence. He has to corroborate the replies when he is called back into the room. The answers could be hilarious, because the people will not know each other well.

3] Hire a table in a non-romantic restaurant and get eight or more girlfriends to go out for a meal. Once the atmosphere starts building, it can become great fun and you could go dancing later.

4] You could organize a visit to the theatre and have a meal afterwards. Most people do not go to the theatre every year, so going with your friends on St. Valentine’s Day would make the day truly unforgettable.

5] You could make up a basket of your favourite things. Include some really special items like gourmet chocolate or other gourmet candy. Get something lavish to drink that is appropriate to your age. Then you can pig out on your favourite foods and drink and watch a few films on your own or with your sister or other family member like a favourite cousin.

There are many things you can do to enjoy Valentine’s Day as a single girl, there’s no need to mope around feeling sorry for yourself at all.

How To Choose The Perfect Romantic Present

January 21st, 2010 Owen Jones No comments

There are not many things in the world more nerve-racking than attempting to finish all of your Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve. After fighting through the crowds to pick through the sparse leftovers in dozens of shops for the perfect gift, eventually settling for a present that is “good enough”, and then standing in line for an hour in an attempt to pay for that present even a lobotomy may seem preferable; after all, at least they anesthetize for that!

However, because of the demanding schedule of individuals these days, it is becoming increasingly difficult for people to get things done ahead of the Christmas rush. After all, shops have established hours which generally inconveniently correspond with the time that most of the world’s population has to be at work. (More than one person has speculated that this is not, in fact, a fluke).

Intentional or not, it is difficult for a lot of people to do their shopping in a bricks-and-mortar store. For this reason, virtual shops are on the increase as individuals enjoy the ability to do their shopping at any hour of the day or night from the relative comfort of their own homes.

Shopping on the Worldwide web does not, however, get rid of one of the most pressing problems facing Christmas shoppers, that is, deciding what the should buy. For years the jewellery industry has been doing its level best to provide shoppers with an opportunity to select a romantic present for that special individuals in their life, say, a ring, a necklace, a bracelet, a brooch or a tie pin. It seems as if there is always something for everybody in the world of jewellery, regardless of the individual or their personality.

However, giving the same presents year after year can become very tedious and jewelry shops have to constantly fight to stay on top of the market. They are consistently coming up with trendy new items to bring in customers and they have done it again with the introduction of silver card pendants.

Silver card pendants are pendants that attach to a card and can be worn as a necklace by the person who received them as a gift. That sounds effortless enough, right? The best thing is that without thought of who you are shopping for, there is a silver card pendant that is fitting for the occasion! Is your wife’s birthday coming up? Buy her a pendant with a romantic heart on it . Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you have not even begun to think about what you are going to buy your beloved?

Buy her a pendant inscribed with “With All My Love Always” and send it with a card. Is your partner a new mum? Why not get her a pendant that permits her to slide in a picture of your new bundle of joy and take him or her with her wherever she goes?

As you can tell, no matter what the occurrence, a silver card pendant makes the ideal gift. They can be bought from almost any online specialty retailer; you only have to do a search.

Choosing Scent For Somebody

January 19th, 2010 Owen Jones No comments

A person’s perfume is a unique way of expressing oneself. Some people choose the perfume they wear depending on their frame of mind, some wear one perfume during the day and another in the evening, while many people choose to wear the same scent all the time. Others have a favourite, very expensive fragrance that they wear only on special occasions.

Whatever someone does, the choice is a personal one. Some people use a perfume like a personal trademark, so that whenever you smell that particular bouquet, you automatically think of that one person. My mother used a scent called ‘Wild Gorse’ made by the monks on Caldy Island in west Wales for this purpose. Very, very few other people had that scent, as you had to go to the island to obtain it.

It is almost impossible to choose perfume for someone you do not know, unless you go for a famous, expensive name like Chanel No. 5. There are few women who would turn down a bottle of that, even if it was not their favourite perfume. The more you know the person the easier it should get, in theory at least.

So, how do you know which perfumes are going to be a welcome gift? That is the $65k question. There are a number of ways that reduce the odds of you making a slip-up. You could take a sneak look on their dressing table to see what that person wears already.

If you plan far enough in advance, you could bring it up in conversation with an off-hand compliment like: ‘Oh, what a lovely scent/after shave! I like that. What is it called?’. But you have to do it weeks before you need the information.

Or you could choose a scent that brings a special memory to mind, like the perfume that was worn on their wedding day, anniversary, or graduation day. Perfumes like these bring back pleasant memories and make them feel good by association. If you are not a bosom buddy of the one you want to buy for, you could ask their friends’ advice.

If you want to give a gift of perfume to someone that you want to remember you by, why not invite them out for a meal or a show and a meal and present the perfume in the restaurant? Most perfumes lose their potency after four or five hours, which is why many women top up every now and again with a spray from their handbags. Very few men do this.

So, if you give the perfume later on in the evening, there is less chance of it clashing with what they are already wearing, meaning that someone is more likely to dab a bit on there and then, thereby associating the bouquet in their memory with the night you took them out. Just make certain it was a good night out.

If all of the above fails, then most department stores offer perfume gift boxes which include the scent , a powder and body wash. These perfume gift boxes are a decent alternative, even if the person only wears it to go to bed or around the house.

Stop Smoking Aids

November 9th, 2009 Mike James No comments

You hear it everywhere, don’t you: “Smoking causes cancer”. Isn’t this health warning printed on every packet of cigarettes today? Yet there are millions of people who, despite knowing it, still smoke. Everybody knows that smoking isn’t healthy. It causes cancer or severe cardiac illness to everyone who smokes continuously.

Despite the fact that a countless amount of people are still addicted to smoking, there are millions who desire or even have to quit smoking. This can be quite difficult, especially because of the cravings they experience and nicotine withdrawal symptoms. Quit smoking aids are useful during these situations in order to reduce craving and the effects of addiction withdrawal.

However, one of the advantages of living in a hi-tech world is that a wide variety of quit smoking aids can be found easily. Some of the most commonly used items to quit smoking are nicotine chewing gum, nicotine patches, lozenges, inhalers, medications, hypnosis and herbal remedies and nicotine nasal sprays.

Not everyone gets any benefit from nicotine patches or chewing gum, because it doesn’t work the same way on everyone. The results vary from one person to another. Items to help smokers stop are meant to help a person give up their unhealthy habit of smoking and also to reduce the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Some of the most well-known aids to quitting smoking on the market are Zyban and Chantix. Zyban is not recommended for use by everyone although it is very good at lessening the mood-swings associated with nicotine withdrawal. Some people who have tried hard to quit smoking, have not been successful. For many of these people, Zyban has been the answer to stopping smoking once and for all. There have been certain side-effects linked to the drug that include having a dry mouth, dizziness, migraine headaches, insomnia.

Chantix is another product to help you quit smoking that many use today. Using this has helped reduce the level of satisfaction that smokers derive from smoking and also minimize nicotine withdrawal symptoms. People who use Chantix find it an easy, painless process of supporting their goal of quitting smoking. The pleasure of smoking dissolves and as a result, they become less likely to take another cigarette.

While it’s true that the market has more than enough aids to quitting smoking, one of the best aids is your own will power and determination. It is better than any drug that can be taken to quit smoking. If you have no motivation or desire to quit smoking, then the best aid to quit smoking in the world won’t help you. In this case, you would probably stop smoking for a short period of time and then resume your usual habit once again when your will power drops.

How to Quit Smoking

October 1st, 2009 Mike James No comments

Once a person decides that it’s high time he or she stopped smoking, it is best to start immediately. However, how do you quit smoking, when you have been smoking for a number of years? Smoking is a very difficult addiction to break because tobacco contains the substance called nicotine which is addictive to both the mind and body.

Recent studies have shown that every time you smoke a cigarette, it costs you around five to twenty minutes of your life. Apart from weakening the body, smoking leaves a person with halitosis, yellow teeth, wrinkles, lower bone density, fertility problems that will eventually affect the sexual health of both men and women and a higher risk of being infected with deadly diseases such as lung cancer. Smoking is costly and can shorten one’s life by about ten years or even more.

Methods to quit smoking can be seen in various places and there are also various types of medication that can be prescribed. Some smokers are given nicotine replacements such as nicotine gums, nicotine patches, lozenges, inhalers, etc. But the problem with all these is that it deals with mainly the physical aspect of what smoking does to the body. The fact is that more than the body, it is the mind that becomes addicted to smoking.

The hardest part of stopping smoking comes when trying to deal with the mind. A smoker’s mind often becomes convinced that their happiness, enjoyment and leading a stress free life, all depend on smoking. Understanding the fact that this is just not the case is one of the pivotal issues in quitting smoking.

One of the most important things to bear in mind when trying to stop smoking, lies in breaking such connections in the mind. Smokers believe that they need a cigarette to relieve them from their daily stresses. Once you are able to overcome this dependency, in time your mind will learn to deal with daily problems without needing a cigarette.

A tip on how to stop smoking can be to attend counselling classes and get advice from someone who is an ex-smoker, a person who has gone through similar experiences. Talking about your problems about quitting smoking and thereby relieving the doubts you have by attending such sessions can be beneficial for anyone who is trying to quit smoking.

If you have decided that you ought to give up smoking, don’t hesitate, grab the bull by the horns and start stopping now. You will soon start to notice the difference to your health. You will notice that exercising will be easier, your fitness level will rise dramatically, food will taste far better and your mouth will be fresher.
